The walk will take in the industrial archaeology associated with the Trefil Quarries (established 1794)\, the Duke’s Table\, the Brinore tramroad (1814-15)\, prehistoric burial mounds\, medieval hafotai\, a horizontal mill and the famous (but elusive) Chartists’ Cave. \nModerately strenuous\, 6 miles distance over rough terrain. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a late afternoon walk in Pontypool Park\, with an exclusive visit to the shell grotto. Enjoy panoramic views across the county followed by a guided tour of the newly restored water features of the American Garden\, courtesy of Mr Jack Hanbury-Tenison.  \nMeet at the Horse and Jockey Public House at 4.30. There will be pooled transport to the start of the walk. It may be possible to walk along the ridge to the folly if time and weather allow. Then a visit to the American Garden on the way back to the pub for supper around 7.00 pm. \nLimited spaces available due to transport limitations\, therefore booking is essential.
