The King’s Welshman: The Strange Case of Morgan ap Maredudd

Morgan ap Maredudd was one of the more remarkable political survivors of thirteenth-century Wales. A descendant of the lords of Caerleon, he rebelled against the dominance of Llywelyn ap Gruffudd before becoming an ally of Edward I. His career provides a fascinating window onto the complex loyalties, rivalries and ambitions of the native Welsh nobility during the decades surrounding Edward’s conquest.
