Lower Wye Valley Building Preservation Trust

LWVBPT is a volunteer charity which aims to conserve St Mary’s, Chapel Hill and Fryer’s Wharf Slipway, Tintern Parva for public benefit.

 Volunteering days for 2026.  Saturday: 10.30-12.30:  31 Jan, 28 Feb, 21 March, 25 April, 23 May, 13 June, 25 July, 12 Sept, 17 Oct and 28 Nov.

The  majority of these dates will be held at St Mary’s, but some of the later dates will be allocated to clearing the weeds and silt off of the ancient slipway at Fryer’s Wharf, Tintern Parva.

June and September dates will include a short history walk/talk in the local vicinity if there are enough numbers and you wish to stay on, but do rsvp at info@lwvbpt.org

Snips will be cancelled if heavy rain or winds are forecast. Please bring your own hand-tools if you can, otherwise we do have spares.

Events – Kate Humble, Candida Meyrick, Ronald Hutton

Here are three Tintern Talks now open for bookings (click the title link):

An Evening with Kate Humble, Friday 6 March, 7.30pm
Kate Humble is a writer, award-winning broadcaster, the president of the Wildfowls and Wetlands Trust, Patron of the British Society of Soil Science, and is an ambassador for Farms for City Children and the Whitley Fund for Nature.
Kate has used her TV platform to promote the environmental and conservation charities she is passionate about. In an illustrated presentation Kate will confide how she got into TV, the challenges of broadcasting, her latest projects and what we can do to help conserve the environment around us.

Candida Meyrick – Be More Bird: Life Lessons from a Hawk, Friday 24 April, 7.30pm
As a novelist Candida Clark was one of the Observer’s ‘Top Twenty Writers of the Decade’. Be More Bird is her debut non-fiction book. It charts the deepening relationship between Bird and woman, illuminates the ancient, worldwide art of falconry and its urgent relevance for the modern mind: the importance of finding our courage and compassion, the wildness hidden within ourselves, and to think profoundly about our connections with nature and our lives.

Ronald Hutton –  Pagan Religions  of Ancient Monmouthshire, Tuesday 2 June, 7.30pm
Our pagan past, with its mysterious monuments, atmospheric sites, enigmatic artifacts, bloodthirsty legends, and cryptic inscriptions, is both enthralling and perplexing. Who were these ancient pagans and what were they practising in Monmouthshire?
Ronald Hutton is an acclaimed broadcaster, author and academic. He has written twenty books, ninety-six essays and sits on the editorial boards of six journals concerned with the history of religion and magic.

Please consider joining us. Annual membership to LWVBPT costs £10 a year per person and, as we are all volunteers, all income goes into the St Mary’s Conservation Fund.
